The Big Water Day photos

The Big Water Day

We organised another special water day in our school. This time pupils were the experts- they directed the workshops.
The day was arranged in a different way. Instead of traditional classes there were mixed up groups with the names of fish. Those groups visited the classrooms where special workshops were waiting for them. There were experiments and investigations again, mastering and writing. In the end of the day we gathered in our school hall, where conclusions were made. We watched a final slideshow and praised all young teachers.
What did we learn? Our Baltic Sea is vulnerable and needs protection. We waste too much water. In many areas of our planet people are suffering from the lack of clean water.

Experts in Illuka

We spent a day with the experts from the Environmental Education Centre of Tartu. They organised workshops for all students. Primary classes had to taste different waters, investigate snowflakes as frozen water and play games.

For 5-9.grades the experts had the Baltic Sea Programme with 8 workshops. Pupils had to solve tasks, find solutions by measuring and investigating. They used maps and tables, books and pictures and real objects.
They had to play the oil pollution, investigate fish, seaweed and shells and seals, the development of the Baltic Sea and its species, the migration of foreign species. They learned a lot!

Mini-project activities at Illuka Nov 2009-Jan 2010

As we decided, the name of this mini-project is WATER IS LIFE- so everything we planned to do before our next trip to Italy was connected with water.

We made plans in November, and proclaimed competitions in creative work - poems, drawings and the logo.We chose the best ones for the exhibition and for publishing. Some of them are in this blog!

As the Christmas time is always very busy and we have our school holidays until the 1st week of January, we decided to have our big water days when we are back at school.

WATER IS LIFE - VESI ON ELU

WATER IS LIFE
by Janett Juuse

Mother makes the soup of WATER,
our tea is made of WATER.
We go swimming in the WATER,
fish can´t live without the WATER.
Plants live with the help of WATER,
Human´s also made of WATER -
Everybody needs the WATER!

THE WATER GHOST JOKES
by Kaidi Villers

The Water Ghost lives in the water. If you ask in which lake or sea, the answer is he lives in every river, lake or sea.
Once the Water Ghost wanted to make some jokes. People were swimming and the water was warm and calm. Suddenly the Water Ghost started to shake and splash the water, the waves went high up over people´s heads. Everyone was frightened. They screamed:"Help! We are drowning!!" But nobody drowned. The Water Ghost didn´t let them drown - he wasn´t so bad!
Then the water was calm again. People came out of the water and didn ´t want to go swimming any more.
Then the Water Ghost had a new idea. He thought:"Why should the water be just blue?" He then made the water white - like snow! But it didn ´t look nice - the Water Ghost didn ´t like it this way. He changed the colour several times. That was a strange and very colourful spectacle. It seemed that there was a disco for water creatures!
People were standing on the beach and looking at the water. They were so astonished that they forgot to close their mouths!
Finally, the Water Ghost grew tired of his games and started to act reasonably. So the water was blue again!

IF I LIVED AT THE LAKE OR AT THE SEASIDE
by Johan Arus

If I lived at the lake, life would be pleasant and good. I could have my morning coffee, looking at the lake and thinking about life. On a hot day it would be great to go swimming near my home.
I would build a sauna near the lake. After the hot sauna I can jump into the cool water then.
I would share my good luck of living at the lake with my friends - I am sure everybody would enjoy it.
I ´d also grow fish in my lake - angling sometimes would be nice.
If I lived at the seaside, my house would face the sunrise or the sunset. And I´d surely share it with my friends.
But I prefer living at the lake - there is more privacy and less humidity.

IF I LIVED AT THE SEASIDE
by Anni Kalle

If I lived at the seaside, my life would be interesting. Lots of people would come swimming there in summer. I´d go walking along the coast in every season. I could also buy a boat and go rowing, and of course I could go swimming in summer, but surely not in winter!
I wouldn ´t build my house very near the coast - I´d like to avoid the flooding. I´d like to have a terrace where I could admire the view in the morning while having my breakfast or other meals.
Living at the Baltic Sea, it would be wise to find a place where there wouldn ´t be shipping lines.
I ´d have a dog called Ronnu. I´d like walking together with him at the seaside. Mari-Liis would also live at the seaside, so I´d like to invite her to my place and also visit her myself.
Maybe some of my neighbours have a motor-boat. We could do water-skiing then. I ´d have good relations with my neighbours because I believe that people at the seaside are friendlier and calmer comparing with city people. If you live in such a beautiful place you just can ´t be evil!

IF I LIVED AT THE SEASIDE
by Mari-Liis Küüsmaa

You wake up in the morning. The sun is shining. You open the French windows and there is a wide blue waving body of water in front of you! You take your coffee mug and go walking on the beach, breathe the clean air and enjoy the morning freshness. Wouldn ´t it be great?
But this beautiful light blue dream usually can ´t come true - only a few of us may enjoy it.
I still hope this dream can be fulfilled. It´d give me the feeling of content and release the stress.Living at the seaside wuld be much more harmonious than living in the city centre of Tallinn in the middle of noise and traffic jams. What a big joy to my ears, if they could hear only the birds´song and the roar of the waves! In the evening after the stressfull day you can walk at the seaside and forget all troubles and evil of the day. You would feel like reborn again - all your worries have just disappeared.
Fulfilling this dream would be really great. The question is, could it come true? But as it is said - if you don ´t dream, you don´ t have anything to strive for.
